Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation Button Chair Exhibit
Cancer Services of Gaston County is hosting the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC) Foundation Button Chair exhibit, an innovative art display designed to increase awareness of cancer, in hopes of saving lives. The exhibit is free and open to the public and will be on display May 17 through June 4, 2010 at our office.
Created in 1998, the Button Chair is a tribute to North Carolina women who have faced breast cancer. Each button – once owned by a woman who bravely fought her battle – represents a story of courage, strength, and support. Some of these women are now mourned by family and friends. While others are survivors and advocates.
Brooke Kolconay Bryand, the artist who created the chair, donated it for auction at an event sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC). There it raised $25,000 for breast cancer research. Today, as part of the BCBSNC Foundation’s effort to promote breast health, it continues to raise money, awareness, and hope.
