In July of 2007, I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. I had three surgeries over a six month period followed by chemo and radiation.
At treatment I learned of Cancer Services of Gaston County.
It was there I found support and much needed assistance as cancer was overwhelming to me. Because of my experience as a colorectal cancer survivor, I became a volunteer for them. That gave me a purpose.
Volunteering with Cancer Services
As a volunteer I share the fun of Bingo Day, hear the ring of the bell at the Cancer Center as fellow survivors complete their treatment, and see the hope that I have in someone else’s eyes.
I received the 2011 Cancer Services Volunteer of the Year award and participated in the Livestrong Program at the YMCA all thanks to Cancer Services.
I am making this journey with the help of God, family, friends, and my doctors. You can make it too with the wonderful outreach of Cancer Services of Gaston County.
