The Annual Gaston County Amateur Golf Tournament attracts a wide variety of golfers all focused on the task of raising awareness and money to support people living with cancer.

Every dollar donated to Cancer Services stays in Gaston County. Presented by McMahan Financial, The 2023 Gaston County Amateur Golf Tournament raised more than $91,000 for Cancer Services.

Entry Fee $195

Entry fee includes green & cart fees, practice balls, lunch, drinks, & snacks for all tournament players at Catawba Creek Golf Club and for qualifiers at Cramer Mountain Club. Players who do not qualify for Saturday’s round at Cramer Mountain Club will receive a gift certificate for green & cart fees to play at their choice of Cramer Mountain Club or Catawba Creek Club on another date. Entry fee also covers all costs for Sunday qualifiers. No application will be processed without the entry fee. 

Entries must reach Cancer Services of Gaston County, Inc., 306 S. Columbia St., Gastonia, NC 28054, by Noon on Friday, October 4th, 2024. If either the Amateur (72 players) or the Senior (24 players) division is not full by Noon October 7th then paid entries may be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. 

Competition Format

Must be a resident of Gaston County. Only amateur golfers can participate. 

On Friday, we expect the number of players to be 96 with 72 players in the Amateur division and 24 in the Senior division (55 years and older). Players will compete at individual stroke play.

On Saturday, we expect 80% of players to advance to the second round at Cramer Mountain Club. Players who do not qualify for Saturday’s second round will receive a gift card to play at Catawba Creek Golf Club or Cramer Mountain Club.

Senior division players who are 65 years and older will also compete in the Super Senior division. Super Seniors play from same tees as Seniors.

The Junior golfer, 18 years and younger and not in college, with the low 3-day score will receive the MIKE TAYLOR LOW JUNIOR AWARD, presented by HV3 FOUNDATION.

The highest qualifying scores in all divisions will go first. First Place in each division will be played off on the course. The LOW THREE-DAY score in each division will  be the SUPER SENIOR, SENIOR and AMATEUR Gaston County Amateur Champions 

Friday, October 11th 

Players in both divisions play 18 holes at Catawba Creek Golf Club. Tee times will be from 9 am until 11 am. All ties for the last position in qualifying for Saturday will be played off on scorecard according to USGA suggestions. 

Saturday, October 12th

All qualifiers will play in three-some’s at Cramer Mountain Club. The number of qualifiers will be determined based on the number of players in the qualifying field on Friday. 

Sunday, October 13th 

All qualifiers will play in three-some’s at Gaston Country Club. The number of qualifiers for the Amateur and Senior divisions will be determined based on the number of players in the qualifying field on Saturday.  

Get Your Tournament Entry Fee Waived by Securing a Player Sponsorship!

If you (our tournament participant) solicit and receive a sponsor for the tournament valued at $575 or more, we will waive your tournament entry fee. You may get one company/individual to sponsor you for $575 or more, or you may get multiple companies/individuals to sponsor you at any amount as long as the total amount is $575 or more. 

Player Sponsors’ names will be displayed on a banner at the tournament on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Player Sponsors’ names will be in the tournament program as well as Cancer Services’ Annual Report. 

If you choose to get a Player Sponsor, your completed Sponsor Form and money (cash or check) must be submitted at the same time that you submit your Entry Form.
